A Museum of Living Design
Udhbava – The Museum Studio
In a world shaped by speed, scale and constant consumption, Udhbava was created as a return to something more enduring: design with meaning.
It is a curated design practice where heritage materials, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary imagination meet, and where every creation carries a story of origin, transformation and lasting beauty.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Where the Past
Finds New Purpose
Udhbava is not a conventional furniture or craft brand. It begins from a simple belief: what we create, and what we choose to live with, shapes how we experience the world.
Three influences meet in the studio’s work: the depth of Indic tradition, the elegance of colonial aesthetics, and the expressive possibilities of mixed-media craft. Wood, metal, glass and textiles are not merely materials here. They are the mediums through which stories are told and histories reinterpreted.
Every piece is conceived as a conversation between past and present, craft and contemporary life, function and meaning. Whether it is a restored heirloom, a classic made anew or an entirely new form, each reflects a commitment to detail, authenticity and artistic integrity.
A museum not of the past, but of the living. A studio not of objects alone, but of ideas in form.
THE BEGINNING
From Personal Passion to Living Studio
Udhbava grew from founder Gayathri Krishnamoorthy’s lifelong instinct for curating spaces. Its first chapter began at home, with century-old Burma teak from her ancestral house: wood that carried the memory of a family home and deserved a new life.
That teak became Maram, the studio’s debut collection. Paired with Kanjeevaram and Benares silks, rattan and handcrafted elements from across India, it set the language Udhbava still speaks today.
The studio has since grown to include upcycled furniture, bespoke commissions, collectible objects, heritage interiors and its textile line, Sutra. Alongside these are signature creations such as the Indic Totem, which brings symbolism, mixed-media craft and sculptural form together in one collectible object.
The Studio Today
Beyond Retail, Toward Collaboration
Udhbava is moving beyond traditional retail toward bespoke design and curated commissions. Its collections are driven not by inventory but by possibility. Each piece on show is a starting point for collaboration, reinterpretation and personalisation.
Through its online presence, the studio invites a global audience to experience its work as ideas to bring to life in their own homes, not as products to consume. And beyond objects, Udhbava is a meeting point of craft, culture, cuisine and couture, through its gatherings, its textile line and its collaborations.
