Rooms shaped by heritage, made for living now
Udhbava interiors bring together handcrafted furniture, heritage materials, regional textiles and collectible objects, composed around the people who use a space and the stories they want it to hold, at home or in a boutique.
Our Approach
Reinterpreting the Past, Not Recreating It
An Udhbava interior begins where the studio’s objects do: with something that already carries meaning. It may be a family heirloom, a piece of reclaimed furniture, a regional textile, or simply a feeling a client wants a room to hold. From there, a space is composed piece by piece, bringing cultural memory, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary living together.
The aim is never a period set. Rather than recreating the past, the studio reinterprets it. Classical forms sit beside clean lines, and heritage materials are used in ways that suit how a home or a business works today. The result feels personal and rooted, and still entirely of its time.
Because Udhbava designs and makes its own pieces, an interior can include furniture created specifically for it. Each room is therefore composed rather than simply furnished: every element is chosen, made or reworked for the place it will occupy.

Boutique Jewellery Store
A Setting Made for Heritage and Adornment
For a boutique jewellery store, Udhbava designed an interior that treats trying on jewellery as a moment worth lingering over. At its heart is one of the studio’s bespoke vanity tables, made for the space.
The vanity has a white distressed finish and hand-painted panels. Beneath a Raja Ravi Varma cover sits a velvet-lined central chamber. It stands against a pichwai wallpaper chosen by Gayathri for the store, so the painted traditions of the wall and the courtly imagery of the vanity speak to each other across the room.
The vanity is designed as a special place for the store’s clients to sit, explore and try on their favourite pieces. It gives the boutique both beauty and character, and a setting that reflects the craftsmanship of what it sells.
“A quiet meeting of heritage, craftsmanship, and personal story.”
– Gayathri Krishnamoorthy, Founder & Creative Director

The Process
From a Conversation to a Composed Space
Listening
Every project starts with a conversation about the space, the people who will use it, and the objects or memories it should hold.
Finding the story
The studio develops a direction that draws on heritage, materials and the client’s own pieces, reinterpreted for contemporary living.
Making and sourcing
Bespoke furniture is designed and made, heirlooms are reworked, and reclaimed pieces, textiles and objects are selected for the space.
Composing the space
Each element is placed and styled so the room works day to day and carries its story with ease.
Spaces
From a Single Corner to a Whole Interior
From a single handcrafted object to a fully curated interior, the studio works at the scale a space needs.
Homes
Living rooms, dressing rooms, entrance halls, studies and prayer corners composed around the people who live there.
Boutiques and retail
Settings that give a business character and give its clients a reason to stay, as in the jewellery store project.
Single rooms and corners
A dressing area, a reading nook or a sacred corner, built around one meaningful piece.
FAQ’s
Questions, Answered
A few things worth knowing before you choose, commission or gift a piece from Udhbava.
Do you design complete interiors or individual rooms?
Both. Udhbava works from a single corner or room to a fully curated interior.
Do you design commercial spaces?
Yes. A recent project for a boutique jewellery store included a bespoke vanity table for clients to sit and try on pieces, set against a pichwai wallpaper chosen for the space.
Can you include furniture or heirlooms I already own?
Yes, and we encourage it. Family furniture, textiles and objects can be kept as they are, renewed, or reworked into new pieces that belong in the new space.
Can furniture be made specifically for my space?
Yes. Udhbava designs and makes bespoke pieces, so an interior can include furniture created for its exact setting and use.
Where do you take on projects?
Cities or regions served, and whether projects outside India are possible.
How are interior projects priced?
Every project is different, so we discuss scope and costs after our first conversation.
Are commissioned pieces returnable?
Customised, commissioned and made-to-order pieces are non-refundable and non-returnable unless they arrive damaged or incorrect.
