About the Founder
Gayathri is a natural aesthete whose sensibilities were shaped early—growing up in a culturally enriched environment, deeply influenced by tradition, craft, and an enduring connection with nature.
While her education and professional journey led her into the world of business, her true expression has always been through design—most evident in the thoughtfully curated personal spaces she created over the years. These spaces became a quiet testament to her instinctive understanding of material, form, and cultural continuity.
With an innate creative vision and a deep appreciation for artisanal craftsmanship, Gayathri began working closely with wood, textiles, and traditional handicrafts—bringing together diverse elements into a cohesive and distinctive design language.
This journey found its first formal expression in “Maram”, her debut collection.
At its heart lies heritage 100-year-old Burma Teak from her ancestral home, reimagined and brought to life through a rich interplay of materials—Kanjeevaram and Benares silks, colonial influences such as rattan, and handcrafted elements sourced from across India. The collection comprises over 150 unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, each embodying memory, material, and meticulous craftsmanship.
Since then, Gayathri has expanded her creative practice into a wider body of work—developing upcycled furniture and high-value bespoke pieces that reflect both playfulness and precision. Her work continually explores the meeting point of heritage and contemporary design, elevating traditional materials into collectible, modern forms.
Among her most distinctive creations is the Indic Totem—a pioneering design expression and a global first—bringing together symbolism, mixed media craft, and sculptural form into a singular, collectible object.
Through Udhbava, Gayathri continues to evolve this vision—creating pieces that are not merely functional, but deeply personal, culturally rooted, and timeless.
